Are you looking for helpful and easy to implement tools to support clients with anxiety?
Are you interested in experiential and creative practices to build mindfulness and self-soothing?
Topics include:
The purpose and benefits of anxiety
The Autonomic Nervous System and how the body responds to threats
How Compassion-Focused Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavior Therapy can address anxiety
Using mindfulness and art-making to soothe anxiety
"Finding Safety Within" was originally developed as an online workshop by Creative Healing Workshops to support individuals in the community who were struggling with anxiety. Sigal and Danielle will walk you through the psychoeducation and emotional regulation strategies that were helpful for their participants so that you can use this material with your own clients (and maybe for your own self-care as well.)
Guided mindfulness and art experiences in the course will help participants deepen their understanding and develop confidence in these techniques.
What To Expect:
The course includes approximately 1.5 hours of learning content, as well as additional time suggested for personal art-making and self-reflection. 1.5 CE credits are available for MFT's, social workers, counselors, and psychologists. CEs should meet the standards for ATCB; art therapists should verify the current requirements.
The online platform allows you to work with your own schedule and at your own pace.
You will learn through informational videos and experiential art activities.
Please keep in mind that this course does not certify you Art Therapy or any other treatment model. Instead, this course is intended to provide you with information and skills that you can integrate in to your work as a mental health clinician. You may wish to get additional consultation or training.
Course Objectives
Participants will be able to:
1. Summarize how to work with a client's anxiety utilizing specific modalities and interventions that reduce symptoms.
2. Explain how the body regulates emotions.
3. Describe a mindfulness exercise and an art directive to soothe the nervous system and "feel safe" in the body.

Instructor
Sigal Govrin
Sigal Govrin is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas, and a Registered and Board-Certified Art Therapist. She graduated from Seton Hill University in 2013 with a Masters in Art Therapy, Counseling Specialization, and has been working with adult clients primarily in an outpatient setting providing individual therapy. She describes herself as having an “integrative style” which encompasses her knowledge in art therapy, mindfulness, CBT and other psychotherapy theories and approaches. Most recently Sigal has named a new “why” or purpose. She realized that without normalizing emotions and reducing shame and judgment, we cannot truly heal. This has been a great influence in developing CHW as the hope is to understand that we all have emotions that need support, and leaning into self-compassion is one of the greatest “antidotes” for reducing pain. When Sigal is not in the office you can find her working on her own paintings in the studio, practicing yoga and working out, creating yummy art in the kitchen, and exploring the amazing outdoors and cuisine of Austin, TX. -
Instructor
Danielle Gardea
Danielle Gardea is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor in the state of Texas and a Licensed Professional Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of New Mexico. She received her graduate degree at Our Lady of the Lake University in 2011 with a Masters in Science in Counseling Psychology. Her education was formed on a strength based approach, Solution-Focused Therapy, that focuses on the present and building on existing skills for change. With her years of experience primarily working with individuals, couples, and family in the outpatient setting, she grew to incorporate mindfulness and somatic awareness while connecting to the present and to the Self. Danielle learned that with the ability to grow more consciously aware of ourselves in the moment, with evidence-based interventions, we also build the ability to make decisions and actions more thoughtfully. Learning to connect with ourselves moment to moment with intention is one of the foundations of CHW. For fun Danielle works on connecting with herself through yoga and mindfulness practices, being active, spending time outdoors camping or admiring the desert scape of west Texas, and nurturing her many plants and dogs (also known as her children).
Creative Healing Workshops
This course is presented by Sigal Govrin and Danielle Gardea of Creative Healing Workshops. The mission of CHW is "to empower healing by understanding emotions and building skills with mindfulness and art." These workshops, facilitated by licensed psychotherapists, are designed to provide skills, education, and community support around topics like anxiety, anger, and self-compassion.
Creative Healing Workshops has partnered with Creativity in Therapy to offer their workshop material in a CE format to mental health clinicians and other helping professionals.
Feedback from workshop participants:
“The session was so valuable. I would definitely take another workshop and recommend them for anyone new to a mental health journey or those well on their path of self-awareness” -Anxiety workshop participant
“[Creative Healing Workshops] puts together very informative workshops on different topics. It is so helpful to first learn about these topics but then also get to work with them through mindfulness activities and art directives. I’d recommend these workshops for anyone who wants to learn more about themselves.” -Workshop Participant
FAQ
-
Who is this course for?
This course is for all mental health and helping professionals who want to deepen their understanding of anxiety and how to support clients with mindfulness and art-making. (If this course isn't right for you, be sure to look at the full list of available courses at https://creativityintherapy.thinkific.com/collections)

Does this course give me the education to do Art Therapy or be an Art Therapist?
No. Art Therapists (and Expressive Arts Therapists) attend graduate level 2-3 year training and have extensive supervision. There is a lot more to "art therapy" than what is covered in this course. However, this course aims to help other clinicians use art with their own scope of practice, so that they can help their clients in a way that is better informed, more effective, and ethical.
-
I'm not sure I have time to do the course right now. Can I sign up later?
One of the great advantages of an online course it that you can work at your own pace and around your own schedule. If you are interested in the course, we encourage you to sign up now and then work through the course when you are able.
-
Do I need to have art supplies or anything else?
You'll need a variety of art materials to complete the hands-on art experiences. We recommend having drawing paper, colored drawing media, and maybe paint. We also recommend having a journal for your own self-reflection.

Can I get CEs for this course?
A Certificate of Completion will be provided for all participants when they complete the course. If you choose, you may also take a post-test through our co-sponsor CE-Classes.com to obtain their certificate for 1.5 APA-approved CEs (available for MFTs, professional counselors, social workers, and psychologists; current approval until 11/1/2025). Certificates are awarded online after completion of the workshop. Participants print their own certificate after registering at CE-Classes.com, entering a keycode, and completing an evaluation form. Licensed professionals should consult their regulatory board rules to verify that this course meets their requirements. CEs may be used for ATCB re-certification, but art therapists are encouraged to verify the current CE requirements.

What types of clients will these ideas be helpful for?
Sigal and Danielle work primarily with adults, so these approaches will work best with adults and older adolescents who are dealing with anxiety or stress. As this material was developed from a community workshop, you will also find that it works well in a group setting or single-meeting situation.
